Perhaps after a fan was hot on his heels demanding he signs Mahrez, Arsene Wenger now knows he has no options but to sanction the signing of a striker and not rely on Theo Walcott to deliver the goods.
Wenger is still licking his would after a failed attempt to sign Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy who scored 24 goals last term – that was the cheapest option we could find, and coupled with the fact that he knows his way around the Premier League, Wenger was due to get a bargain for the striker.
Since then, we have had to see some of our striker targets leave and pocket an improved wage package, and the manager knows he is at risk of getting a backlash from the aggrieved fans.
Perhaps, that has seen him shed his old skin, as it is now reported that he is ready to sanction a huge deal for Alexandre Lacazette.
That’s according to Squawka who reports that Wenger is ready to table a second bid for the Frenchman in the region of 33.7 million pounds ($44.5 million).
That amount is slightly lower than Lyon’s asking price, but it is believed that the manager could use his French connection to broker the deal.
However, unofficial polls from the Arsenal fans actually want Riyad Mahrez at the club but whether we would sign the attacking maestro remains a major doubt.
